Dallas Keuchel Signs with Atlanta
Dallas Keuchel ended his long wait and finally signed with the Atlanta Braves on Thursday. Keuchel was the last remaining free-agent from this off-season after Craig Kimbrel signed with the Chicago Cubs earlier this week.
Keuchel signed a one-year deal with the Braves worth $13 million opting to enter free agency again next season. Keuchel has the opportunity to make a significant impact on the National League East pennant race where Atlanta currently resides in second place behind the Philadelphia Phillies.
Keuchel is a former American League Cy Young Award winner, a World Series champion with the Astros, and the holder of four Gold Gloves.
The current ace of the Brave staff is Mike Soroka, who is 6-1 this season with a 1.41 earned run average. Soroka is still only 21, and the Braves can benefit from Keuchel’s veteran presence within a young rotation that also includes Max Fried, who is 25 years young with a record of 7-3. Both Fried and Soroka have been the best pitchers in the Braves rotation this season.
Keuchel went 12-11 last year with a 3.74 earned run average but gave up a career-high 211 hits. The now-former Astro had chatter surrounding him signing with the Yankees before signing with the Braves.
The Braves plan for Keuchel is to make his first start of the season with their triple-A affiliate Gwinnett over the Weekend according to Yahoo Sports.
